Marjan Khosravi is an emerging Iranian filmmaker with a strong focus on women’s rights and social issues in Iran. Throughout her career, she has created a number of outstanding short films and documentaries. Her first mid-length documentary, The Snow Calls, was selected for the student competition at IDFA 2020 and went on to win the Best Feature Documentary award at the Big Sky IDFF. The film has also been broadcast by major platforms and TV channels such as VGTV and ORF.
In 2021, Marjan made another impactful short documentary titled The Dream of a Horse, which was nominated for Best Short Documentary at the 62nd edition of the Krakow Film Festival. The film was broadcasted by by POV/PBS and EBS.
In 2023, Marjan completed Mrs. Iran’s Husband, another short documentary that garnered significant acclaim and won the Best Short Film award at the 30th edition of Hot Docs. It was also showcased at numerous major festivals around the world where it won the Best Short Film and Cinema Network award from Fribourg IFF.
In 2024, Marjan finished her first feature documentary, Requiem for a Tribe, which won the Hot Docs Forum, Hot Docs crossCurrents Fund and DMZ Pitching Prize and premiered in the competition section of the Shanghai International Film Festival. Requiem for a Tribe is a co-production with Lukimedia and Aljazeera and will have its European premiere at Ji-Hlava IDFF 2024.
Currently, Marjan is working on her second feature documentary, Dreams of the Wild Oaks, which has received support from Catapult Documentary Fund, IDFA Bertha Fund Altercine, Vision du Reel, AJB Docs and Sunny Side of the Dos.
